Medical Emergency: Saving Baby Mwale

Published

Eight-month-old Mwale was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital with severe malnutrition and a respiratory infection. His young mother, a single parent, had no money for the required medication or the hospital deposit.

Pamulomo Zed Show received the call at 11pm. By midnight, Zed was at the hospital with the deposit. By the next morning, the community had raised enough for the full treatment course.

Baby Mwale spent five days in hospital and was discharged healthy and smiling.

The Outcome

Baby Mwale made a full recovery. His mother was connected with a local women's cooperative that provides income-generating opportunities. The family now has a stable food supply.
